Our Pastor

Pastor George E. Hurtt accepted the Lord’s call to ministry in  1995, while under the pastoral leadership of Dr.  James Jennings Sr., Senior Pastor of the New True  Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, MI.  In 1998, Pastor Hurtt graduated Cum Laude from the  University of Detroit Mercy with both a Bachelor of  Science in Health Service Administration and a  Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies. He  finished the requirements for the latter degree at  the historic Oxford University in Oxford, England  where he studied Reformation and Renaissance  Studies under renowned theologians, such as Dr.  Alister McGrath.

After returning from England, Pastor Hurtt earned  a Master of Health Management and Policy degree  from the University of Michigan. This enabled him  to become a commissioned officer in the  United States Navy.

Upon moving to Southern California, Pastor Hurtt laid  aside a promising military career to attend the  Master’s Seminary to prepare for full-time ministry.  He graduated from the Master’s Seminary with  a Masters of Divinity in May 2006. On September 29,  2008, he accepted the calling at Mt. Sinai Missionary  Baptist Church, Los Angeles, as the new pastor.  Pastor Hurtt prayerfully accepted God’s call to be  the next shepherd to lead Mt. Sinai.

In 2022, Pastor William Turner Jr. resigned from his position as Senior Pastor of New Revelation Baptist Church. Pastor-elect George E. Hurtt was appointed to the pastoral position. He was appointed on February 27, 2022. God has indeed, favored New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church with another dynamic, scripture-based leader.

Pastor Hurtt led the Church with wisdom and grace, attentively observing the church, its members, and its operations while remaining steadfast in preaching the gospel. He introduced a biblical seminar after service on first Sundays and launched a church newsletter to enhance communication within the congregation. Additionally, he implemented a yearly church theme along with annual biblical goals to deepen spiritual growth. He sponsored students for the S.T.E.A.M. camp and led a trip to the holy land. On May 11, 2024, Dr. George E. Hurtt was awarded his Doctor of Ministry degree from Memphis Theological Seminary. As he entered his third year, he introduced a five-year Bible reading plan to guide the church in a collective journey through scriptures.

However, when the Eaton Wildfire struck, all church plans were put on hold. Without hesitation, Pastor Hurtt sprang into action, establishing Faith Beyond the Flames—a mission dedicated to serving those affected by the devastation. Under his leadership, the New Revelation Baptist Church became a vital Resource Center, offering relief and support to those in need. Partnering with Mt. Sinai Church and other organizations, through Pastor Hurtt the NRBC Resource Center extended a beacon of hope, ensuring that wildfire victims found solace, aid, and encouragement. Through the Church Resource Center, the community was welcomed with open arms, finding strength and unity in the face of adversity.

The NRBC Resource Center, along with its partners, distributed vital supplies, ensuring that no one faced this hardship alone. Efforts included:

  • Clothing and essential supplies
  • Grab-and-go meals served three times daily
  • Gift cards for immediate financial relief
  • Gas and car giveaways to aid transportation needs
  • Laptop giveaways to support education and work recovery
  • Grants and financial assistance

Beyond emergency aid, Pastor Hurtt & NRBC Resource Center emphasized rebuilding together, creating programs focused on long-term healing and restoration:

  • Health and wellness recovery initiatives
  • Senior fellowship gatherings for community support
  • Family Fun Day to restore joy and connection
  • Fire Victim Assistance Centers, offering guidance from FEMA, SBA, and financial resource teams
  • Town hall meetings to address community concerns and foster unity
  • A special Super Bowl party and other events to bring people together in fellowship.

Through these efforts, Pastor Hurtt and the New Revelation Church provided not only material aid but also a renewed sense of hope, faith, and resilience, demonstrating the true power of a united, faith driven community. Now, under the leadership of Pastor Hurtt, we can focus on our next milestone of Church renovation. The spiritual, educational, social, and economic requirements of the whole person have always been at the center of our ministry and still serve as the compass for our church today, as we look back on the previous 64 years. We are sure that we have come this far by faith, relying on the Lord's direction. It is important for us as a church to follow the leadership of our Pastor, while we are engaging unprecedented waters. With God guiding our pastor, along with the Holy Spirit, we shall press on with our journey, never wavering from our goal: "Until the whole person is served, our mission remains."

Our History

New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church

The New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1961 by Minister Ike Morris. The church acquired a three-bedroom residence and transformed it into a place of worship at our current address, 855 North Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena. In 1967, Pastor Morris retired, and Minister William Turner, Jr. was named as Under Shepherd and Pastor of the congregation. Under God's leadership and the Holy Spirit's guidance, a vision to Serve the Whole Person was established. A substantial ten-year building initiative, amounting to two hundred fifty thousand dollars, was initiated with the collaboration and prayers of the congregation. The project involved constructing a sanctuary, a child development center, a full-court gymnasium, and a tutorial program. The sanctuary was finalized in August 1970.

From 1970 to 2021, New Revelation has served as a community resource and outreach facility for individuals in need. The Spiritual Manpower Program and Cell Evangelism Ministry were instituted. We partnered with our Latino Sister Church, Ministerios Familia Bethel. Under Pastor Turner’s direction, we established initiatives to nourish the impoverished, shelter the homeless, and offer substance abuse and mental health therapy. We were a major contributor to the disaster relief initiatives for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Haiti. The Memorial Wall for our members was erected to honor our beloved deceased who have transitioned from effort to reward. The rear hall was dedicated to Assistant Pastor Chris Dallas, while the Youth Chapel was renamed the Greg Chamberlain Youth Chapel in memory of Deacon Gregory (Greg) Chamberlain.

In 2022, Pastor William Turner Jr. relinquished his position as Senior Pastor of New Revelation Baptist Church. Pastor-elect George E. Hurtt was appointed to the pastorate. He was appointed on February 27, 2022. New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church has been endowed with another strong, biblically grounded leader.

There are 4 requirements for becoming a member.

  • STEP 1: A profession of faith in Jesus Christ for salvation.
  • STEP 2: Submission to the Lord Jesus through water baptism.
  • STEP 3: Completion of our New Members’ class.
  • STEP 4: Agreement with our Church Covenant.

Upon completion of these requirements and a follow-up meeting with the senior pastor, we extend the Right Hand of Fellowship, which is our official welcome to new members.

Our Church Covenant

We, who are members of the New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, solemnly enter into covenant with the great Head of the  Church and with one another, promising in humble reliance upon divine help, to walk together in Christian love, To watch for one another’s welfare, to remember one another in prayer, to comfort one another in sickness and distress, to be ever slow to take offense, ready to forgive and eager for reconciliation.  We also promise to labor and pray for the temporal and spiritual prosperity of this church, to attend regularly its services, sustain its doctrines, ordinances, and disciplines.

To contribute freely of our means for the payment of its expenses, for the relief of the poor, and for the spread of the gospel at home and abroad.

We also engage to maintain the habit of daily devotion, and to make earnest efforts for the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to be honest in our dealings, truthful in our statements, Faithful in our engagements, temperate in our habits, and circumspect in our deportment, thus striving to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world, looking for that blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
